Amir Hamza remanded in JS attack plotting case

DHAKA, May 25, 2021 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed extremist orator Amir Hamza on a five-day remand in a case lodged over plotting to carry out an attack on Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested Hamza from his village home in Dabirabhita under Patikabari union under Kustia Sadar upazila on May 24.

CTTC on May 5 arrested one Al Amin from the capital and Ali Hasan Osama from Rajbari for their role in plotting the attack.

Incited by Ali Hasan Osama’s hate speech on social networking sites, Al Amin was plotting to carry out a sword attack on JS Bhaban, holding a black flag. Police filed the case under anti-terror act with Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this connection.

Police said Hamza too was preaching his extreme ideologies for long, by taking part in different Islamic Mahfil and through YouTube.
