8 directives issued to face cyclone ‘Yaas’

DHAKA, May 24, 2021 (BSS) – The Water Resources Ministry has given eight directives including opening of control room in facing approaching cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’.

An urgent meeting was held at the ministry conference to this end on Sunday, said a press release today.

As per the decision taken in the meeting, the ministry has opened a control room to collect information and monitor Yaas (phone number 01318234560).

A report will have to be sent to the ministry by May 24 after observing overall situation including embankments in coastal areas as per the directives. Necessary sand, Geo-bag and workers should be kept ready. Masks, oral saline and drinking water should be kept ready for distribution.

Necessary measures should be taken for maintenance of eight polders in Satkhira and Khulna district. Required water vessels should be managed to shift people and health guidelines should be maintained in all activities in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Concerned officials and employees in the field level should remain present at the respective workplaces round the clock. If anyone concerned get any information of causality, they should inform the concerned district administration and district water resources management committee.

Field level officials and on-duty officials of the control room will take necessary measures.

Water Development Board will have to work in coordination with local public representatives, media and locals.

In this regard, State Minister for Water Resources Colonel (Retd) Zaheed Farooque said the ministry remains ready to face any disaster including cyclonic storm Yaas at the directives of the prime minister.

Over a lakh Geo bags have already been stocked at Barishal and Khulna regions while engineers in field level remain working vigilantly to protect the lives and properties of people, he said.
