200 more athletes receive financial assistance
DHAKA, May 24, 2021 (BSS) – The government has provided financial assistance to 200 more athletes affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP distributed the cheques at a function at the National Sports Council auditorium this afternoon. Each of the athlete was given a cheque of Taka 7,000.
Ministry of Youth and Sports organised the event.
“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 disaster, we have been trying to provide humanitarian assistance to our athletes and sports organisers…..We have already provided financial assistance to over 5,000 sports persons,” Russell said while addressing the event.
“We have also distributed health protection materials among various sports federations, athletes and sports journalist organizations,” he added.
“We have distributed cheques worth nearly Taka 2.5 crore through eight divisions and 64 district sports bodies. And all these initiatives have been successfully implemented with the sincerity and overall direction of the sports-loving Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he further said.
The state minister also assured that this humanitarian assistance programmes of the government will continue in the days to come.
