Stocks rebound on both bourses

DHAKA, May 24, 2021 (BSS)–After witnessing a downward trend in the last two consecutive sessions, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 55.31 points or 0.96 per cent to settle at 4,842.91. Two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 11.22 points to finish at 2,172.95 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 6.28 points to close at 1,269.92.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 18,200.78 million, which was Taka 14,859.99 million at the previous session of the week.

Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 364 issues traded, 248 ended higher, 61 closed lower and 55 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by Pioneer Insurance, NRBC Bank, Saif Power and Prime Bank.

Delta Spinning was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while Pioneer Insurance was the worst loser, losing 5.12 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher with its All Shares price Index (CASPI)-gaining 177.73 points to close at 16,935.66 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 104.67 points to close at 10,204.66.

Of the issues traded,199 advanced, 65 declined and 30 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 4.50 crore shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 98.59 crore.
