Five get BJWT financial support in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 24, 2021 (BSS) – Family-members of two late journalists and three other insolvent journalists received financial support from the Bangladesh Journalists welfare Trust (BJWT) here today.

The District Administration organised the check-distribution programme at its conference hall largely attended by local journalists and others concerned.

On the occasion, family members of late journalists Bulbul Chowdhury and Tabibur Rahman Masum were given Taka three lakh each while three journalists– Amir Faisal, Abdus Sattar Dollar and Abrar Sair—were given Taka 50,000 each.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil accompanied by senior vice-president of Rajshahi city Awami League Shaheen Akter Rainy and Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque distributed the cheques of the assistance.

Among others, Rajshahi Press Club President Saidur Rahman and its General Secretary Aslam-Ud-dowla, President of Rajshahi Union of Journalists Rafiqul Islam and its General Secretary Tanjimul Haque spoke on the occasion.

PIB Director General and BJWT Managing Director Zafar Wazed addressed the meeting virtually saying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is media-friendly and she has brought most of the professional bodies including journalists under financial support as part of her relentless efforts to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

He also said development programmes have started becoming visible throughout the country and urged the journalists to highlight the development and successes of the government through their objective reporting.

Zafar Wazed said this financial assistance will contribute a lot towards improving the level of confidence of the working journalists while the Premier stands beside them by enhancing her helping hand.
