Covid-19 cases hit 33,871 with 177 afresh in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 24, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 177 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division during the last 24 hours till Sunday, climbing the number of infections to 33,871.

The daily new infection figure shows a significant escalating trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 124, said the health department sources.

“Among the infected people, 30,834 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 90 new recoveries found during that time,” the sources said adding that a total of 3,782 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 8,220 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 7,019 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 115 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 155 others were released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 530, including 309 in Bogura and 80 in Rajshahi with 51 in its city while three more fatalities reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 65 were detected in Rajshahi, including 59 in its city, followed by 59 in Chapainawabganj, 17 in Bogura, 16 in Natore, eight in Joypurhat and Sirajganj each, three in Pabna and one in Naogaon districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 8,328 in Rajshahi, including 6,731 in its city, 1,291 in Chapainawabganj, 2,137 in Naogaon, 1,655 in Natore, 1,651 in Joypurhat, 12,178 in Bogura, 3,613 in Sirajganj and 3,018 in Pabna.

A total of 72,169 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 70,808 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,01,698 people received second dose of Covid-19 vaccines in the city and other districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8.

Of them, 2,306 people including 928 females took the jab on Sunday, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder told BSS today.

He said 145 including 15 females in Chapainawabganj, 111 including 53 in Naogaon and 30 including 11 females in Natore have got the vaccines on March 23.

Apart from this, a total of 10 including 3 females in Sirajganj, 1,750 including 710 females in Bogra and 260 including 100 females in Joypurhat today received the vaccines on the day, he added.
