NEW DELHI, May 23, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh mission in New Delhi today observed the 48th anniversary of receiving the prestigious Julio-Curie Award by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner.
Marking the historic occasion, the mission organised various programmes including placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, discussion meeting and DoaMahfil by strictly following the Covid-19 norms.
Speaking on the occasion, Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi Muhammad Imran paid homage to the Bangladesh’s Founding Father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his sacrifice for establishing an independent and sovereign country.
He recalled Bangabandhu’s farsighted leadership and courage for establishing world peace for which he was conferred the prestigious award.
He said Bangabandhu will be ever remembered across the world for his tireless efforts for establishing global peace.
Later, a special prayer was offered seeking diving peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu, the greatest Bengali of all times.
Officers and employees of the mission attended the programme.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bengali nation, was awarded the Julio-Curie Peace Prize by the World Peace Council on May 23, 1973.
The World Peace Council has been awarding the award to distinguished individuals and organizations since 1950 to commemorate the contributions of world-renowned scientists Marie Curie and Pierre Curie to the struggle for world peace.
World leaders like Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Yasser Arafat, Salvador Allende, Nelson Mandela, Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa, poet and politician Pablo Neruda, Jawaharlal Nehru, Martin Luther King and Leonid Brezhnev were awarded the prize.
