Eminent cultural organizer Saiful passes away

DHAKA, May 23, 2021 (BSS): Former President of Mahakal Natya Sampraday and prominent organizer of Group Theater Federation Saiful Islam Mahmud passed away at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital this afternoon .

He was 66 , family and hospital sources said.

He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, countless cultural colleagues, host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

Saiful Islam Mahmud was buried with state honours at Azimpur grave after Janaza at Purana Paltan Battala Mosque today.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid has expressed profound shock at the death of the eminent cultural personality.

In a condolence message, the state minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

“Saiful Islam Mahmud was deeply involved in the organizational work of the Bangladesh Group Theater Federation, Pathnatak Parishad and Sammilita Sangskritik Jote. His contribution in the cultural movement of Bangladesh will be remembered with gratitude.” Khalid said.

Saiful, was a brother of eminent actor Raisul Islam Asad, who was the founding activist of Dhaka Theater, Bangladesh Gram Theater and Film Parliament ‘Cine Art Circle’.

Golam Quddus, president of the Sammilita Sanksritik Jote, Nasir Uddin Yusuf, president of Mahakal Mir Zahid Hasan, general secretary Mohammad Shah Nawaz, theatre personality Mohammad Bari, Aktaruzzaman and Mizanur Rahman and Kamal Bayezid also mourned the death of Saiful Islam.

Apart from this, various cultural organizations including Group Theater Federation, Pathnatak Parishad, Aranyak Natyadal, theater magazine ‘Khyapa’ have also expressed their condolences at his death.
