Maizbhandar spiritual centre provides financial support for Palestinians

DHAKA, May 23, 2021 (BSS) – The spiritual hub of Maizbhandar today handed over symbolic financial assistance to Palestine and called for philanthropists to stand by victims of human tragedy as they were trying to get to normal life after Israel’s 11-day bombardment killing nearly 250 people.

Incumbent leader of the Islamic spiritual hub Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari led a four-member delegation while handing over the amount to Palestinian ambassador in Dhaka Yousef SY Ramadan, expressing solidarity with the distressed people of his country.

“The government and people of Bangladesh all along stood and will stand along with you,” Ahmed told the envoy and regretted that the disunity among the Muslim countries largely caused the lingering sufferings of the Palestinians.

He added: “We were, are and always will be with the people of Palestine in their struggle for sovereignty and legal rights.”

Ahmed, also the President of Parliament of World Sufis, said a fragile ceasefire was “not enough” and rather “we demand a sustainable and tangible solution of the Palestine crisis in terms of equity, rights and political resources” while Palestinian control over Al Aqsa Mosque must be ensured.

“Illegal annexation of Israelis must be resisted,” he said and demanded the perpetrators of barbaric carnage to be exposed to justice on charges of crimes against humanity.

He reviewed Bangladesh-Palestine brotherly relations since emergence of Bangladesh and recalled the personal friendship between Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Ahmed offered the money for food and treatment of wounded hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza on behalf of Hazrat Syed Moinuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari Trust, a platform named after a leading Sufi saint in the region.

He simultaneously said humanity demands everyone to extend their hands to the Palestinians with whatever means they could.

The Palestine embassy earlier said many Bangladeshis have extended their hands of cooperation and many have shown keen enthusiasm to donate money for the brotherly country at this hour of need.

According to media reports pro-Palestine solidarity demonstrations continued to be held in major global cities like London, Melbourne and Paris while more are scheduled in other big cities, including New York.

The peace activists around the globe are demanding their respective governments impose sanctions and a military embargo to cut the supply of weapons to Israel.
