COVID-19 cases hit 33,069 in Khulna

KHULNA, May 23, 2021 (BSS) – With detection of 99 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Saturday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 33,069 as 30,693 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 92.82 percent ,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 33,069 with 99 new positive cases were reported after testing 158 samples at the Khulna Medical College Laboratory and others two respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours ending this noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 41 were detected in Khulna followed by 39 in Jashore, six in Bagerhat, five in Kushtia, four in Meherpur, two in Jhenidah, four in Meherpur and one each in Magura and Narail in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 9, 875 are in Khulna, 6,689 in Jashore, 4,787 in Kushtia, 2,865 in Jhenaidah, 1,920 in Chuadanga, 1,853 in Narail, 1,478 in Bagerhat, 1,390 in Satkhira, 1,251 in Magura and 961 in Meherpur, she added.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands at 614 in the division with no more death was reported in the division in last 24 hours.

The district wise break-up now stands at 167 in Khulna, 109 in Kushtia, 77 in Jashore, 55, in Jhenaidah, 56 in Chuadanga, , 44 in Satkhira, 38 in Bagerhat, 26 in Narail, 23 in Magura and 19 in Meherpur in the the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 32,970 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at nearly 1.86 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

A total of 76,515 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10, 2020 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 75,821 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 694 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
