GM Niaz splits point in 2nd round

DHAKA, May 22, 2021 (BSS)- GM Niaz Murshed split point with third seeded player GM Amin Tabatabaei (Rating-2613) of Iran in the second round games of the Asian Continental Individual Chess Championship today.

The second round matches Bangladeshi players played at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room.

In the second round match, GM Niaz Murshed played against GM Amin Tabatabaei’s Dutch defense method with white pieces. Despite being in a bad position under pressure up to 35 moves, he moved to a better position in 36 moves but lost the winning chance by a mistake in move no. 53 and finally drew at 56 moves.

GM Enamul Hossain Razib lost to Chinese GM Xu Yinglun in this round. GM Razib kept his position up to 33 moves in the game against GM Xu Yanglun with white pieces, in Queen’s Gambit declined game but after he lost the equal position and finally lost by 51 moves.

Abu Sufyan Shakil defeated Bayasgalan Khisingbatar of Mongolia. IM Shakil won by 44 moves in a classical system of the Caro-Kann defense with black pieces. GM Niaz earned 1.5 points out of two games and shared second position along with 20 other players.

GM Razib and IM Shakil scored one point each after second round games and FM Subrata Biswas scored half point.

In the second round, FM Subrata Biswas lost to Indonesian GM Priyasmoro Navendra and IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman lost to Bocojo Mark Jay of the Philippines.

The third round games start tomorrow (Sunday) at 12 pm (BST).
