Jewel wants to score in debut match

DHAKA, May 22, 2021 (BSS)- Young forward Mohammad Jewel, who has been called up to the national team, wants to score in his debut match in international football.

“As I mentioned it earlier if I get the opportunity, I must try to score a goal in the first international match,” the Bangladesh police football club’s footballer Mohammad Jewel told the pressmen after the team’s practice session at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today.

Jamie Day and his boys will leave for Qatar on May 30 to play their remaining three FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Afghanistan, India and Oman.

The footballers are going through a hard training under the scorching heat to cope with the weather condition of Qatar.

During the training session head coach Jamie Day focused on improving the forwards’ scoring skills.

Mohammad Jewel said, ‘First of all the coach made us train with formation …. the day’s training has been good …….the main thing was the score which is happening now. The coach is showing how to score a goal … the finishing was good.”

In terms of physical structure, Bangladeshi footballers lag behind their opponents. Discussions have been going on for a few days about the weight of the footballers but Jewel thinks that it’ll not matter for them in the match.

“Yes their weight is high compared to us but they will not be able to run faster than us ….they will be less in speed and our target will be in the match to beat them in speed anyhow,” said Jewel.

Commenting about his personal target Jewel said, “If I get the chance, I will definitely try to score when I play for the national team for the first time,”

According to the fixtures, Bangladesh will play against Afghanistan, India and Oman on June 3, 7 and 15 respectively.
