42 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 20, 2021 (BSS) – Forty-two more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection today in Rangpur division where the infection rate is showing a rising trend again during the last four consecutive days.

“The 42 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories at the infection rate of 11.17 percent today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Among the 42 new patients diagnosed today, 23 were reported positive after testing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 236 new patients include 14 from Rangpur, four from Gaibandha, three from Lalmonirhat and each from Kurigram and Nilphamari districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 7:20 pm.

On the other hand, 19 other new infected patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All 19 newly infected COVID-19 patients include 18 from Dinajpur and one from Nilphamari districts,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,512 as 42 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of 18,512 patients currently stands at 4,852 in Rangpur, 833 in Panchagarh, 1,561 in Nilphamari, 1,057 in Lalmonirhat, 1,191 in Kurigram, 1,653 in Thakurgaon, 5,627 in Dinajpur and 1,738 in Gaibandha of the division.
