5 killed, 7 injured in separate road accidents in Tangail

TANGAIL, May 19, 2021 (BSS) – Five people were killed and seven others injured in three separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police sources said three people died when a covered van rammed into a microbus near the Pakullah bus stand area of the highway in Mirzapur upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Hasan, 30, the driver of the microbus, his assistant Emon, 25, and passenger Golam Maula Shamim, 28. Another person also sustained injuries from the crash.

One person was killed and four others injured when two three-wheelers collided head-on near Akashpur by-pass area of the Dhaka-Tangail highway.

The deceased was identified as Khandaker Afzal Hussain, 38. The injured have been sent to Tangail General Hospital for treatment.

In another accident, a motorcyclist was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a truck at Hamidpur area of Ghatail upazila of the district this morning, police said.

Ghatail Police Station (SI) Rajib Hossain Taludkar said Rezaul Karim was returning to his workplace in Dhaka on a motorcycle after Eid holidays. On his way to Hamidpur area, an unidentified vehicle ran over him and drove away. He died on the spot.

The body of the deceased was later handed over to the family.

Meanwhile, two people sustained severe injuries when a mini truck lost control on the highway in Kortial Haat area and fell into a roadside ditch.

The injured have been sent to Tangail General Hospital for treatment.
