Chinese company to set up 400MW power plant in Chattogram

DHAKA, May 19, 2021 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved a total of nine proposals including one for setting up a 400MW power plant at Raozan in Chattogram by a Chinese company.

The approval came from the 18th meeting of the CCGP held in this year virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters virtually after the metering, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Sahida Akhter said that SEPCO-III Electric Power Construction Company Limited, China will set up the power plant at Raozan in Chattogram with around Taka 1,796.72 crore under the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

The unit price of per kilowatt hour electricity will be Taka 1.38.

Replying to a question, the Finance Minister said the government would replace the old power plants as cost of operation of those is much higher. He also said that service delivery in this regard would be ensured in an economical way.

Meanwhile, Dr Sahida said in a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure some 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG from AOT Trading AG, Switzerland with a cost of around Taka 340.62 crore where the price of per unit MMBtu would be $10.1997.

In another proposal from the Ministry of Shipping, the Belgium-based dredging company Jan De Nul (JDN) will conduct the capital and maintenance dredging at Rabnabad channel at Payra Port with a cost of Taka 5,629.18 crore.

Besides, Karnaphuli Ship Builders Limited, Chattogram will built and supply 4 coastal passenger vessels to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) with around Taka 230.95 crore.

The day’s CCGP meeting awarded the works for CCTV monitoring system, other infrastructures construction, operations and maintenance to the joint venture of Smart Technologies (BD) Limited, Digicon Technologies Limited, Dhaka with around Taka 129.23 crore under the project for enhancing capacity for highway police.

Another proposal from the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) for appointing the joint venture of Dohatec New Media, Bangladesh, dot GOV Solutions LLC, USA and Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited (BEXIMCO) and IT Division, Bangladesh as consultants with around Taka 44.25 crore under the project for Digitizing implementation, monitoring and Public Procurement.

The CCGP meeting approved a proposal for awarding the package number GD-27a to the joint venture of Beximco Computers Limited, Bangladesh, Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited, Bangladesh, Tech Mahindra Ltd India and Tech Valley Networks Ltd Bangladesh with around Taka 261.71 crore for supplying equipments for installing softwares, data centers, internet connections, monitoring system at all Food godowns of the country under the Modern Food Storage Facilities (MFSP) project.

Besides, the package number W-21 for constructing a steel silo for rice at Barishal under the same project has been awarded to the joint venture of Confidence Infrastructure Limited, Bangladesh and the GSI Group LLC, USA with around Taka 330.86 crore.

Apart from this, the meeting approved a proposal of additional around Taka 20.77 crore as variation for constructing a 13-storey headquarters for Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority.
