28 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 18, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty-eight more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate is showing a slowly rising trend again during the last three days.

“The 28 new cases were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories at the infection rate of 14.89 percent today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Among the 28 new patients diagnosed today, 14 were reported positive after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 14 new patients include 12 from Rangpur and one each from Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 7:10 pm.

On the other hand, 14 other new infected patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the 14 newly infected COVID-19 patients are hailing from different areas of Dinajpur district alone,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,405 as 28 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 18,405 patients stands at 4,811 in Rangpur, 833 in Panchagarh, 1,555 in Nilphamari, 1,054 in Lalmonirhat, 1,181 in Kurigram, 1,653 in Thakurgaon, 5,590 in Dinajpur and 1,732 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
