5 die, 70 more test positive for Covid-19 in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 18, 2021 (BSS) – A total of five people died and 70 more people were tested positive for Covid-19 in Chattogram district in the last 24 hours. The infection rate is 16.95 percent.

The infection now stands at 50,897 at eight COVID-19 laboratories in the district till Monday evening.

The daily new infection figure shows a slight decline compared to the previous day’s figure of 113, but the recovery rate declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chatogram told BSS today.

Among the infected patients 62 are from Chattogram city and eight from different upazilas of the district.

The health expert of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks due to continuous increasing corona infections here.

The total number of recovered patients from coronavirus rose to 38,165 in the district with the healing of 128 more people in the last 24 hours.

A total of 38,217 coronavirus patients have so far recovered from Covid-19 and the percentage of recovery rate stands at 73.51 in the district, said Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

The recovered patients were discharged from different home isolations and Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals of the district while their two consecutives real- time PCR tests were found negative, he said.

The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases reached 51,827 amid the frequent rising trend in the daily infection rate in recent days only in the district, Dr Rabbi added.

Among the total infected people, 41,552 are the residents of the port city and the rest 10,375 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district.

A total of 5,390 infected patients were also undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the port city.

The death toll from the virus rose to 587 while five fatalities reported afresh in the last 24 hours, the health official said.

Among the reported fatalities, 431were the residents of the port city and the rest 156 were from different upazilas of the district.

He mentioned that the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to follow health rules so that the virus cannot spread further.
