RCC mayoral candidates promise to build modern city
RAJSHAHI, July 22, 2018 (BSS) – Four out of total five mayoral candidates
for the upcoming Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election scheduled to be
held on July 30 promised to build Rajshahi as a modern and developed city if
they were elected.
They also expressed their commitment of freeing the city from drug-
addiction and terrorism coupled with ensuring all kinds of civic facilities
if they were elected as mayor in the election.
They made this commitment while taking part in a dialogue titled “How Will
Be the Future Rajshahi” in the city today.
Rajshahi Division Journalist Association (RDJA), Dhaka organized the
dialogue at conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry for
the awareness of Rajshahi people and giving them the opportunity to put
across their aspirations to the mayoral candidates.
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton (Boat), Musaddique Hossain Bulbul (Paddy Sheaf),
Habibur Rahman (Jackfruit) and Advocate Murad Murshed (Elephant) joined the
programme responding to a volley of questions raised by the participants.
Chaired by RDJA President Khairuzzaman Kamal, the meeting was addressed,
among others, by members of the civil society, cultural personalities,
journalists and professional leaders.
The discussants underlined the need for electing an honest and competent
candidate in the forthcoming RCC election to empower and strengthen democracy
and introduce sustainable socio-economic development of the city. RDJA Vice-
president Anwarul Haque moderated the discussion.
Speaking on the occasion mayor aspirant AHM Khairuzzaman Liton committed to
build Rajshahi as a prosperous, modern and developed city with enriching it
with peace, harmony, education, culture and make it free from unemployment.
He also promised to generate employment opportunities for one lakh unemployed
people.
He put emphasis on creating of employment and accelerating of education and
healthcare services to build Rajshahi as a mega city.
In his remarks, another mayoral candidate Mosaddek Hossen Bulbul wants to
focus on a mega plan in his election manifesto in which he is envisaging the
look of the northern city after 2050.
“I am pledged bound to build Rajshahi city as a modern, clean and green
city. I want to focus on a greater plan of the city as to how the look of
city will be after 2050,” he added.
