N’ganj court remanded Mamunul Haque in Hefajat violence case

NARAYANGANJ, May 17, 2021 (BSS) – A court here today placed former
joint secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam Mawlana Mamunul Haque on
three-day remand in a case lodged over the group’s violence during its
dawn-to-dusk hartal on March 28.

Narayanganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Farhana Ferdous passed the
order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to
place him on seven-day remand.

Confirming the matter to BSS, Narayanganj court general
registration officer Inspector Asaduzzaman said Hefajat-e-Islam
carried out violence, torched a couple of vehicles and blockade roads
in the city.

“Police filed six cases over the incidents with Siddhirganj Police
Station and Mamunul, also the former general secretary of
Hefajat-e-Islam’s Dhaka city unit, was made accused in three of those.
Police today took him in remand on one of those three cases,”
Inspector Asaduzzaman added.
