24 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 17, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty-four more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate is showing a slowly rising trend again during the past couple of days.

“The 24 new cases were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories at the infection rate of 12.77 percent today,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Among the 24 new patients diagnosed today, 13 were reported positive after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 13 new patients include 12 from Rangpur and one from Kurigram districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 7:10 pm.

On the other hand, 11 newly infected patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the 11 newly infected COVID-19 patients are hailing from different areas of Dinajpur district alone,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,370 as 24 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 18,370 infected patients stands at 4,797 in Rangpur, 833 in Panchagarh, 1,553 in Nilphamari, 1,053 in Lalmonirhat, 1,178 in Kurigram, 1,652 in Thakurgaon, 5,576 in Dinajpur and 1,728 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
