Boro production likely to cross target in C’nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, May 16, 2021 (BSS): The production of boro is likely to cross target this year in Chapainawabganj district.

According to the Chapainawabganj district office of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), 85 percent boro paddy has so far been harvested in the district and the farmers have so far got 2,10,997 metric tonnes of rice after harvesting paddy of 41,948 hectares of land.

The sources added that the production target was fixed up at 2,12,149 metric tonnes of rice from hectares of land but boro was cultivated on a total of 49,350 hectares of land in the district.

The sources further added that boro paddy of 11,497 hectares of land in sadar upazila, 3,905 hectares in Shibganj upazila, 12,809 hectares in Gomostapur upazila, 8,287 hectares in Nachole upazila and 5,450 hectares in Bholahat upazila has so far been harvested.

About 34,000 metric tonnes of rice is expected more from the rest 15 percent of land, the sources again said.

About the reason for bumper production of boro in the district, the deputy director of DAE Md. Nazrul Islam said, there was adequate supply of fertilizer, insecticide, irrigation and all required elements and the weather was very favourable. The farmers are very happy as they are getting good price of their products this year, he added.
