Covid-19 cases hit 32,935 with 43 afresh in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 16, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 43 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division during the last 24 hours till Saturday, climbing the number of infections to 32,935.

The daily new infection figure shows a slight declining trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 52, said the health department sources.

Among the infected patients, 29,944 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 105 new recoveries found during that time, sources said.

A total of 3,714 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 8,075 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 6,873 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 12 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 26 others were released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 513 including 305 in Bogura and 76 in Rajshahi including 49 in its city while no more fatality reported afresh for the second consecutive day today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 16 were detected in Chapainawabganj, followed by eight in Bogura and Pabna each, six in Rajshahi city and five in Sirajganj districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the Covid-19 cases now stands at 8,017 in Rajshahi including 6,433 in its city, 1,099 in Chapainawabganj, 2,089 in Naogaon, 1,587 in Natore, 1,613 in Joypurhat, 12,062 in Bogura, 3,530 in Sirajganj and 2,938 in Pabna.

A total of 71,425 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 70,048 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,71,991 people received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines in the city and eight districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8.

Of them, 5,340 people including 2,125 females took the second jab on Wednesday last, Dr Talukder told BSS today.

He said 310 including 137 females received vaccines in Rajshahi city and 633 people including 231 females in Rajshahi district, 469 including 171 females in Chapainawabganj, 376 including 158 females in Natore and 903 people including 376 females in Naogaon have got the vaccines on Wednesday.

Apart from this, a total of 578 persons including 271 females got vaccines in Pabna, 546 including 195 females in Sirajganj, 1,259 including 495 females in Bogra and 266 including 91 females in Joypurhat received the vaccines on the day, he added.
