Two held with 53.50-kg ganja in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 13, 2021 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 seized 53.50 kgs of smuggled ganja with a cargo truck and arrested two presumed drug traders from Baro Sakhu Masrar Beel point under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur on Wednesday night.

“On a tip off, the Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) of RAB-13 from Rangpur set up a check post there on the Rangpur-Bagura highway, searched the suspected vehicle and arrested the drug traders with the cargo truck, ganja, one mobile phone set and cash money from their possessions,” a press release said today.

The arrested drug traders were identified as driver of the cargo truck Md Abdul Alim Khan, 51, and his helper Md Shameem Reza, 39, of different areas in Bagura district.

During primary interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they were carrying the smuggled ganja to Dhaka and other areas of the country for sale after purchasing those from frontier areas of Nilphamari district.

“After filing a case in this connection against the arrested drug traders, the elite force handed over them to Pirganj police station today,” the release added.
