18,295 infected with Covid-19, 17,244 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 13, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 18,295 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 17,244 cured in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases reached 18,295 as 37 more patients were reported after testing 243 samples at the infection rate of 15.23 percent on Wednesday in the division.

Earlier, the daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time after remaining below the five percent mark for over a month previously.

“The daily infection rate came down below the 10 percent mark last week and again crossed the 10 percent mark this week,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,28,345 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 18,295 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.25 percent.

“The district-wise break up of 18,295 patients stands at 4,775 in Rangpur, 832 in Panchagarh, 1,548 in Nilphamari, 1,049 in Lalmonirhat, 1,175 in Kurigram, 1,651 in Thakurgaon, 5,539 in Dinajpur and 1,726 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 17,244 with the healing of 39 more infected people on Wednesday in the division at the average recovery rate of 94.26 percent.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 365 with one more death reported from Dinajpur in the division on Wednesday.

A total of 45 patients died from April 10 to May 11 last, the highest number of deaths in 32 days, in the division since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The district-wise break up of the 365 fatalities stands at 85 in Rangpur, 134 in Dinajpur, 38 in Thakurgaon, 35 in Nilphamari, 19 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 13 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

The average casualty rate currently stands at two percent in the division.

Among the 18,295 infected patients, 42 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 13 at ICU beds and eight at High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, after recovery of 17,244 people and 365 deaths while 663 are remaining in home isolation in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,22,726 got the second dose of the jab till Wednesday in the division,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives for reducing the rising infection rate of the deadly virus.
