Two more die, Covid-19 deaths reach 364 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 12, 2021 (BSS) – The coronavirus (COVID-19) related death toll reached 364 in Rangpur division while two more infected patients died in Rangpur during the last 24 hours ending at 9 am today.

“A total of 44 patients died from April 10 to May 11 last, the highest number of death toll in one month in the division since the outbreak of the pandemic,” said Focal Person of the COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 85 in Rangpur, 133 in Dinajpur, 38 in Thakurgaon, 35 in Nilphamari, 19 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 13 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.99 percent in the division.

“Earlier, the monthly numbers of casualties were 11 between March 11 and April 11, only three between February 11 and March 11 and six between January 11 and February 11 last in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of Covid-19 cases in the division rose to 18,258 as 20 more patients were reported after testing 154 samples at the infection rate of 12.99 percent on Tuesday.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,28,102 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 18,258 people were found coronavirus positive with an average infection rate of 14.25 percent.

“The district-wise break-up of 18,258 patients now stands at 4,762 in Rangpur, 832 in Panchagarh, 1,547 in Nilphamari, 1,048 in Lalmonirhat, 1,175 in Kurigram, 1,650 in Thakurgaon, 5,519 in Dinajpur and 1,725 in Gaibandha,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 17,205 with the healing of 58 more infected people on Tuesday at the average recovery rate of 94.23 percent in the division.

“Among the recovered patients, 4,465 of Rangpur, 804 of Panchagarh, 1,484 of Nilphamari, 1,019 of Lalmonirhat, 1,019 of Kurigram, 1,536 of Thakurgaon, 5,211 of Dinajpur and 1,667 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr Ali said.

Among the 18,258 infected patients in the division, 41 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 13 at ICU beds and eight at High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, after recovery of 17,205 people and 364 deaths while 666 remaining in home isolation.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,05,107 people were put in institutional isolation or home quarantines, and of them, 1,01,572 released till Wednesday morning.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,18,167 got the second dose till Tuesday in the division,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives for containing further spread of the deadly virus.
