Covid-19 deaths reach 362 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 11, 2021 (BSS) – Two more infected persons died in Dinajpur and Kurigram during the last 24 hours raising the coronavirus (COVID-19) related death toll to 362 in Rangpur division.

“A total of 42 patients died from April 10 to May 10 last, the highest number in one month in the division since the outbreak of the pandemic,” Focal Person of the COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break-up of the 362 fatalities stands at 83 in Rangpur, 133 in Dinajpur, 38 in Thakurgaon, 35 in Nilphamari, 19 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 13 in Lalmonirhat.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.98 percent in the division.

“Earlier, the monthly numbers of casualties were 11 between March 11 and April 11, three between February 11 and March 11 and six between January 11 and February 11 last in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 18,238 in the division as 23 more patients were reported after testing 188 samples at the infection rate of 12.23 percent on Monday.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,27,948 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Monday, and of them, 18,238 people were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.25 percent.

“The district-wise break-up of 18,238 patients now stands at 4,757 in Rangpur, 832 in Panchagarh, 1,542 in Nilphamari, 1,047 in Lalmonirhat, 1,173 in Kurigram, 1,650 in Thakurgaon, 5,514 in Dinajpur and 1,723 in Gaibandha,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 17,147 with the healing of 21 more infected people during the last 24 hours at the average recovery rate of 94.02 percent in the division.

“Among the recovered patients, 4,423 of Rangpur, 804 Panchagarh, 1,484 of Nilphamari, 1,018 of Lalmonirhat, 1,019 of Kurigram, 1,536 of Thakurgaon, 5,196 of Dinajpur and 1,667 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr Ali said.

Of the 18,238 infected people, 45 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 12 at ICU beds and three at High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, after recovery of 17,147 people and 362 deaths while 707 remaining in home isolation in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 in the division since April 26 last, and among them, 3,09,304 got the second dose till Sunday,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said everyone should sincerely abide by the health directives to control the infection rate in the division.
