Covid-19 cases cross 18,200 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 10, 2021 (BSS) – The coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have crossed 18,200 mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate and casualty rate are continuing to rise again amid a moderately increasing recovery rate in recent days.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 18,215 as 28 more patients were reported after testing 189 samples at the infection rate of 14.84 percent on Sunday in the division.

“The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last first time after remaining below the five percent mark for over a month previously,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break-up of 18,215 patients now stands at 4,749 in Rangpur, 832 in Panchagarh, 1,542 in Nilphamari, 1,047 in Lalmonirhat, 1,172 in Kurigram, 1,650 in Thakurgaon, 5,501 in Dinajpur and 1,722 in Gaibandha.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,27,760 collected samples were tested till Sunday, and of them, 18,215 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.26 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients reached 17,126 with recovery of 85 more on Sunday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 94.02 percent.

Among the total recovered patients in the division, 4,420 of Rangpur, 803 of Panchagarh, 1,484 of Nilphamari, 1,018 of Lalmonirhat, 1,019 of Kurigram, 1,536 of Thakurgaon, 5,179 of Dinajpur and 1,667 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said one more infected person died in Rangpur on Sunday raising the Covid-19 related death toll to 360 in the division.

“A total of 40 infected people died from April 10 to May 9 last, the highest number in 29 days in the division since the outbreak of the pandemic,” he said.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 83 in Rangpur, 132 in Dinajpur, 38 in Thakurgaon, 35 in Nilphamari, 18 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 13 in Lalmonirhat.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.98 percent in the division.

Among the total 18,215 infected people, 53 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 22 critical patients at ICU beds and four at High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, after recovery of 17,126 patients and 360 deaths while 699 remaining in home isolation across the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,09,304 got the second dose till Sunday last in the division,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu put maximum importance on abiding by the health directives to reduce the Covid-19 infection rate.
