Workers must stay at workplace during Eid-holiday: Mannujan

DHAKA, May 09, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Labor and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian today said the public holiday for Eid is three days and all workers must stay at workplace while enjoying vacation.

“If the workers of all the industrial sectors including garments are entitled to leave, the owner-worker will decide the leave(holiday) by coordinating at the factory level. However, you must stay at workplace while enjoying vacation,” she said.

She made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the Tripartite Consultative Council on readymade garment industry (RMG) at Shram Bhaban in the capital’s Bijayanagar area.

The state minister said the owners must pay all the dues including salaries and bonuses of the workers by tomorrow.

The owners’ representatives present at the meeting assured to pay about cent percent bonus to the factory workers by tomorrow.

Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment KM Abdus Salam, Additional Secretary Dr Rezaul Haque, Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Senior Co-President SM Mannan Kochi were present , among others, on the occasion.
