Farmers urged to cultivate BRRI Dhan-74 at larger scale
GAIBANDHA, May 9, 2021 (BSS)- Agro-expert in a function here today urged the farmers to cultivate BRRI (Bangladesh Rice Research Institute) released zinc-enriched BRRI Dhan-74 at larger scale for getting desired output to achieve sustainable food security of the country.
“It’s called a high yielding variety which doesn’t break down on the soil as its plant is very strong. The rice of the variety contains much protein and zinc that are very essential for the human body,” they said.
They made the comments while addressing a field day of BRRI released zinc-enriched BRRI Dhan-74 harvesting at the yard of one farmer Ferdous Alam at Taraf Bajit village under Jamalpur union of Sadullapur upazila in the district this noon.
Sadullapur Upazila Agriculture Office under the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) arranged the function to inspire the local farmers for cultivating the variety at larger scale in the coming seasons.
District Training Officer (DTO) of the DAE here agriculturist Sahera Banu addressed the function as the chief guest while Agriculture Extension Officer of the office Mahhabubul Islam Basunia spoke as special guest with Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Khajanur Rahman in the chair.
Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Ruhul Amin and farmer Ferdous Alam also spoke at the function, among others.
The speakers put emphasis on farming the variety to get desired output against the corp.
After harvesting the rice, the farmers are happy and expressed their satisfaction over the production of the variety as 6.8 tonnes of paddy were produced from a hectare of land.
DTO of the DAE Sahera Banu advised the farmers to cultivate the variety on their land in the next seasons to help the government for achieving sustainable food security.
In this regard, she urged the field-level sub assistant agriculture officers to motivate the farmers for cultivating the variety to attain the cherished goal of the department.
A large number of farmers, local elite, invited persons including the media men were present on the occasion.
