Mohammedan move to fourth position

DHAKA, May 8, 2021 (BSS)-Mohammedan Sporting Club moved to the fourth position in the points table in the TVS Bangladesh Premier League football beating Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited by a solitary goal held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium here.

In the day’s match, Burkinabé’s defender Mounzir Coulidiati scored the decisive goal for Mohammedan SC in the 37th minute of the match.

After the resumption, Sheikh Russel tried heart and soul to stage a fight back in the match but they could not convert any lack of proper finishing.

With the day’s win, the traditional black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan secured their eighth victory in the league with 28 points from 15 matches while Sheikh Russel KC, who stood at fifth position in the points table, remained at their previous credit of 26 points playing the same number of matches.

Mohammedan earlier beat Arambagh Krira Sangha and Saif Sporting Club by the identical margin by 2-1 goals in their previous seconds round matches while Sheikh Russel KC earlier beat Brothers Union Club by 1-0 goal and blanked Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by 3-0 goals in their second round matches.

Earlier on Friday’s last night match held at the same venue, holders Bashundhara Kings thrashed lowly Brothers Union Club by 5-1 goals.

In the proceeding, Brazilian forward Robinho and striker Tawhidul Alam Sabuz struck twice each while Brazilian midfielder Jonathan Fernandes supported them with a lone goal to secure Bashundhara’s emphatic victory after leading the first half by 2-1 goals. Uzbekistan defender Furqat Hasanboev scored a consolation goal for Brothers Union Club.

Fernandes opened an account scoring the first goal for Bashundhara in the 22nd minute while Uzbekistan defender Furqat Hasanboev restored the parity for Brothers Union Club in the 35th minute of the match.

Robinho again put Bashundhara Kings ahead in the 45th minute while after the lemon break Sabuz further widened the team’s margin scoring the third goal for Bashundhara in the 60th minute of the match.

Sabuj scored his second and fourth goal for the holders in the 74th minute while Robinho sealed the victory scoring his second and fifth goal for Bashundhara in the 74th minute of the match.

Bashundhara Kings completely dominated the entire proceeding and notched their deserving victory while Brothers Union Club were totally off-colored , except the day’s lone goal.

With the win, league leaders Bashundhara Kings extended their lead by securing 43 points from 15 matches while the all-orange Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union Club remained at their previous credit of five points playing the same number of outings.

Earlier, Bashundhara Kings blanked Uttar Baridhara Club 6-0, defeated Bangladesh Police Football Club 2-0 in their previous second round matches while Brothers Union Club lost to Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra 0-1 and went down 2-5 to Abahani Limited, Dhaka in their previous matches.
