COVID-19 cases cross 51,000 mark in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 8, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed 51,000-mark in the district where the infection rate continues rising again in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases speedily raised to 50,019 as 136 more people were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 936 samples in the district with the daily infection rate of 15.53 percent on Friday.

“The infection rate is showing a quick rising trend again and recovery rate is declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

The health experts of Chattogram urged the city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks.

Among the newly detected patients, 101 are from Chattogram city and 35 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

The death toll of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chattogram reached 555 with the three deaths reported on Friday, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said.

Among the reported fatalities, 410 were the residents of the port city and the rest 145 were from different upazilas of the district.

Of the total infected people, 40,856 are the residents of the port city and the rest 10,136 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district, the health official continued.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 37,086 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 96 more patients on Friday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 74.17.

A total of 1,606 infected people are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, Dr Rabbi mentioned.
