30 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 7, 2021 (BSS) – Thirty more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues to show slow rising trend in recent days.

Health officials said the 30 new cases were reported after diagnosing 369 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 8.13 percent in the division.

“Earlier, the daily infection rates came down to 8.96 percent on Sunday last, for the first time below the 10 percent mark since March 24 last, in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Among the 30 new patients diagnosed today, 13 were reported positive after diagnosing 181 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 13 new patients include eight from Rangpur, three from Kurigram and one each from Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 17 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 17 new patients include 14 from Dinajpur, two from Nilphamari and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS at 7:10 pm.

Focal person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,174 as 30 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of 18,174 patients stands at 4,736 in Rangpur, 830 in Panchagarh, 1,538 in Nilphamari, 1,047 in Lalmonirhat, 1,168 in Kurigram, 1,650 in Thakurgaon, 5,485 in Dinajpur and 1,720 in Gaibandha of the division.
