19 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 5, 2021 (BSS) – Nineteen more people have been diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 19 new cases were reported after diagnosing 254 samples of all eight districts in the division at the two COVID-19 laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 7.48 percent.

Among the 19 new patients diagnosed today, 10 were reported positive after diagnosing 160 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 10 new patients include three from Rangpur, five from Kurigram and one each from Nilphamari and Dinajpur districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, nine new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The nine new patients include eight from Dinajpur and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS .

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,130 as 19 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of 18,130 patients stands at 4,727 in Rangpur, 829 in Panchagarh, 1,533 in Nilphamari, 1,046 in Lalmonirhat, 1,165 in Kurigram, 1,649 in Thakurgaon, 5,462 in Dinajpur and 1,718 in Gaibandha of the division.
