51 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 4, 2021 (BSS) – Fifty-one more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 51 new cases were reported after diagnosing 369 samples of all eight districts in the division at the two COVID-19 laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 13.82 percent.

Among the 51 new patients diagnosed today, 22 were reported positive after diagnosing 187 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 22 new patients include 11 from Rangpur, five from Kurigram, four from Gaibandha and one each from Nilphamari and Dinajpur districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 29 new patients were reported after diagnosing 182 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 29 new patients include 26 from Dinajpur and three from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS at 6 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,112 as 51 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of 18,112 patients stands at 4,724 in Rangpur, 827 in Panchagarh, 1,532 in Nilphamari, 1,046 in Lalmonirhat, 1,160 in Kurigram, 1,647 in Thakurgaon, 5,457 in Dinajpur and 1,719 in Gaibandha of the division.
