32 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 3, 2021 (BSS) – Thirty-two more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 32 new cases were reported after diagnosing 225 samples of all eight districts in the division at the two COVID-19 laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 14.22 percent.

Among the 32 new patients diagnosed today, 20 were reported positive after diagnosing 131 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“All of the 20 new patients are hailing from different places of Rangpur district alone,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 12 new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the 12 new patients are hailing from different areas of Dinajpur district alone,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS at 6 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,051 as 32 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 18,051 patients stands at 4,715 in Rangpur, 827 in Panchagarh, 1,530 in Nilphamari, 1,046 in Lalmonirhat, 1,155 in Kurigram, 1,643 in Thakurgaon, 5,431 in Dinajpur and 1,714 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
