Chhatra Odhikar leader Akhter remanded in murder attempt case
DHAKA, May 03, 2021 (BSS) – A court here today placed president of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Dhaka University chapter Akhter Hossain on two-day remand in a case lodged with Shahbagh Police Station over attempt to murder.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order as police filed a remand petition for placing him on five-day remand in the case.
Akhter, also the former social services secretary of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union, was arrested from Shahbagh area on April 13 and was placed on two-day remand on April 14 in a case lodged over snatching an accused from the police custody. He was sent to jail in the case on April 17.
Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad brought out a rally in Motijheel area on March 25, protesting the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As police tried to disperse them from the road they locked in a series of clashes with the law enforcers.
Police arrested one Abul Kalam from the spot and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, for treatment.
The leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad again attacked police and snatched the accused from police custody.
Sub-inspector Raihan Kabir of Paltan Model Police Station filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on March 25 against 19 persons .
