Bangladesh set 437-run target to win second Test

DHAKA, May 2, 2021 (BSS)—Sri Lanka declared their second inning on 194-9 to set an improbable 437-run target for Bangladesh to win the second and final Test at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

Resuming the day on 17-2, they played aggressively in a bid to press for victory. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne again led the charge and scored highest 66. He made 244 in only innings of the first Test and then followed it with 118 in the first innings of the second Test. Dhananjaya de Silva made 41.

Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam finished with 5-72 to indicate that spinners would come to action again.

Sri Lanka declared their first innings on 493-7 and then wrapped up Bangladesh for 251 thanks to left-arm spinner Parveen Jayawickrama’e 6-92 on debut.
