COVID-19 cases cross 50,000 mark in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 1, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 50,000 mark in Chattogram district where the infection rate continues rising hurriedly again in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily raised to 50,090 as 185 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 1604 samples with the daily infection rate of 15.53 percent on Friday in the district.

“The infection rate is showing a quick rising trend again and recovery rate is declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

The health experts of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks.

Among the newly detected patients, 130 are from Chattogram city and 55 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

With the four deaths on Friday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 524, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, said.

Among the reported fatalities, 389 were the residents of the port city and the rest 135 were from different upazilas of the district.

Civil surgeon told BSS that among the total infected persons, 40145 are the residents of the port city and the rest 9945 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 36,522 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 781 more patients on Wednesday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 73.04.

A total of 1506 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
