36 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 1, 2021 (BSS) – Thirty-six more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 36 new cases were reported after diagnosing 282 samples of all eight districts in the division at the two COVID-19 laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 12.77 percent.

Among the 36 new patients diagnosed today, 13 were reported positive after diagnosing 182 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 13 new patients include nine from Rangpur, two from Gaibandha and one from Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 23 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 23 new patients include 19 from Dinajpur, three from Panchagarh and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS at 6:20 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,014 as 36 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of 18,014 patients stands at 4,692 in Rangpur, 827 in Panchagarh, 1,529 in Nilphamari, 1,045 in Lalmonirhat, 1,155 in Kurigram, 1,642 in Thakurgaon, 5,412 in Dinajpur and 1,712 in Gaibandha of the division.
