170 transgender people, 400 workers get money in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 30, 2021 (BSS) – The district administration distributed money among 105 transgender people and 400 rickshaw-van pullers as gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to stand beside them during the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Asib Ahsan distributed Taka 500 among each of the 170 transgender people and 400 rickshaw-van pullers at two separate functions arranged on Zilla School ground abiding by the health directives during the past two days.

On the occasions, the DC urged transgender people and rickshaw-van pullers to regularly wash hands, use masks, maintain cleanliness and abiding by the health directives to prevent further spread of coronavirus for safety of their own and others.

He said livelihoods of the poor, middle and lower middle class people, workers and unemployed people of different professions during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic have been affected.

Many people have become unemployed and lost their livelihoods during the second wave of COVID-19 before fully overcoming the stresses of the first wave of the pandemic.

“The district administration has stood beside jobless, destitute, unemployed and helpless people with the gift of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the epidemic situation,” he said, adding that needy people will get this grant across the district in phases.

Talking to BSS today, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer ATM Akhteruzzaman said the government has allocated Taka 2.16 crore as humanitarian assistance for distribution among jobless and needy people of the district with Taka 500 for each.

Chief Executive Officer of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Md Ruhul Amin Miah, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Rabbani, Executive Magistrate Mahmud Hasan Mridha, among others, attended the functions.
