Stone-laden bulkhead sinks in Ctg port channel

CHATTOGRAM, April 30, 2021 (BSS) – A stone-laden bulkhead ship, MV Pinky, sank at the outer anchorage of Chattogram port today.

The accident took place when the ship’s engine broke down at the said area while running from the Karnafuli New Bridge area to Bhasanchar.

Lt Abdur Rouf, media officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone, told journalists that all five crew members were rescued alive.

The bulkhead left for Noakhali around 3:30am after loading stone at the Karnaphuli Bridge Ghat area of the port city, the official said.

As the engine of the bulkhead went out of order at around 6:30am, it collided with a merchant ship and started sinking, said Lt Abdur Rouf.

Four sailors were rescued by Bangladesh Coast Guard’s high speed boat ‘Stingray’. A sailor who jumped out of the ship was rescued by a ship named MV Nafiza Jahan.

Abdur Rauf said that after receiving the news of the accident, a high speed boat of the Coast Guard was sent and five crews were rescued safely.
There is no problem in the movement of ships in Chattogram port channel due to this accident.
