Two-day cultural festival begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 21, 2018 (BSS) – A two-day cultural festival, the first of
its kind, began here on Friday aimed to create awareness about country’s own
culture among the people particularly young generation.

At the directives of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, District
administration has arranged the festival in cooperation with Zila Shilpakala
Academy (ZSA) with the slogan ‘Srizonshil Unnayane Bangladesh’.

Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini
formally inaugurated the festival at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala
Academy yesterday through igniting a candle as the chief guest.

Additional Police Super Abdullah Al Faruk, General Secretary (GS) of
Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique, Mayor of
Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon and GS of
Gaibandha Press Club Abu Zafor Sabu were present there as special guests.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal presided over the inaugural
ceremony while District Cultural Officer (DCO) Alamgir Kabir made a welcome
speech.

Gini said the festival would inspire the people from all strata including
the youngsters to enrich the indigenous culture and tradition through
performing cultural activities.

The cultural festival would help the youngsters to refrain them from the
militancy and drug taking and other social crimes to build a better and
creative society, the whip added.

The DC urged all to attend the festival and sought cordial cooperation of
the concerned to show their better performance to make the festival fruitful.

Later, the artistes rendered Rabindra, Nazrul, modern and patriotic songs,
recited poems, and performed single acting side by side with staging dramas.

Marking the festival, a grand rally was brought out from Independence
Square and ended in front of the Zila Shilpakala Academy after parading the
main roads of the town.

A large number of people including district and upazila level officials,
cultural personalities, artistes and media men participated in the
programmes.

Talking to BSS, DCO Alamgir Kabir said the local artistes would render
folk songs like Palligeeti, vaoyaia, jari, sari, murshidi, and vatiali
including regional ones on the concluding day.

After ending the programme, all the participants would be given
certificates on behalf of the ministry and the district administration, he
said.
