DHAKA, April 29, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate on May 2 the distribution of financial support to some 35 lakh poor families who were affected from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government will provide a total of Taka 880 crore as financial support to some 35 lakh families through electronic fund transfer (EFT) where each family would get Taka 2,500. The amount will directly go to the respective mobile banking account or bank account of the beneficiaries through EFT, said a Finance Ministry press release today.
Earlier in last year, the government launched such distribution of cash support where some 35 lakh poor families who were affected by the pandemic received Taka 2,500 each.
The release said that the families of the disaster-prone areas, areas having higher people with extreme poverty, the ratio of population were given priority while selecting these 35 lakh beneficiaries so that the extreme poor people and jobless poor section of people come under this financial support programme.
Under the programme, day labourers, farmers, workers, transport workers would get such financial support. ICT has been used in the selection process of the beneficiaries.
