Boro procurement to be made successful : Sadhan

NAOGAON, April 29, 2021 (BSS) – Calling the food officials to be more alert, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today said the entire process of the public sector Boro rice procurement must be made successful at any cost as country-wide boro paddy procurement began on April 28.

“We have to make the boro procurement process smooth and successful at any cost… the food ministry officials must work sincerely to make it transparent and hassle-free,” he said as the chief guest while inaugurating the boro paddy procurement programme virtually here on Wednesday.

Referring to the instructions from the Prime Minister, the food minister said the paddy must be procured directly from the farmers this season so they (growers) get fair prices.

At the same time, the food minister warned all the food department officials including employees and laborers working at the food godowns to work honestly and sincerely.

Regarding maintaining quality of the paddy, Majumder said “The quality of the procured paddy must be maintained fully, adding that no compromise would be made in ensuring quality of the paddy.”

“The rice mill owners will sign contract with the government and must supply paddy to the godowns before the scheduled time,” he told the online programme.

In Naogaon district, the boro paddy procurement begins this year with a target to procure a total of 25,697 tonnes of paddy against the estimated production of 11.83 lakh tonnes in the district.

Chaired by Naogaon Deputy Commissioner M Harun-Ar-Rashid, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Regional food controller (Rajshahi) GM Faruque Patwary, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) M Shamsul Wadud, District Rice Mill Owner Group President and Sadar Upazila Chairman M Rafiqul Islam and its general secretary Farhad Hossen Chakder.

Food Secretary Dr Nazmanara Khanum moderated the programme.
