Veteran journalist Syed Shahjahan passes away

Dhaka, April 28, 2021 (BSS)- Veteran journalist, Press Secretary to the first interim President of Bangladesh Syed Nazrul Islam, Freedom Fighter Syed Shahjahan died at the age of 78 while undergoing treatment at a city hospital this afternoon.

He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of friends and well-wishers to mourn his death.

His wife Jahanara Shefali, told BSS that Syed Shahjahan was admitted to Crescent Hospital on April 23 at around 2.30 pm after testing positive for Covid-19. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the ICU of the hospital.

According to family source, his body will be buried at his village home in Jamalpur.

Syed Shahjahan was a journalist with the Daily Ittefaq for about 45 years.

He has been the chief reporter of the newspaper and was in charge of various departments including shift in-charge.

He was a member of Dhaka Union of Journalists and a permanent member of Jatiya Press Club.

Shahjahan was one of the founders of Kochi-Kachar Asor. He was also very close to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
