Boro harvesting begins in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, April 28, 2021 (BSS) – The harvesting of Boro paddy has started in full swing in all seven upazilas of the district with a good production.

Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj S M Ferdous inaugurated the harvesting process as the chief guest by cutting paddy from one farmer Murad Hossain’s land in Rahmatpur village under Manikganj municipality.

Manikganj Municipality Mayor Md. Ramjan Ali, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md. Shahjahan Ali Biswas, Manikganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Iqbal Hossain, Director of Manikganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries Advocate Abu Bakar Siddique Khan Tushar and Manikganj Municipality Councilor Abdur Razzak were present, among others, during the time.

On the occasion, S M Ferdous said a total of 47,600 hectares of land, 600 hectares more than the set target, was brought under the Boro cultivation with an expectation of producing 3.36 lakh tonnes of rice during the current season.

Department of Agriculture Extension sources said the boro cultivators are happy to expect bumper Boro production in the district as all the agricultural inputs like seed, fertilizer and insecticide were supplied in due time and there was no shortage of irrigation supply.
