Coronavirus: 17,860 infected, 16,471 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 28, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 17,860 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 16,471 already cured in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases reached 17,860 as 44 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the infection rate of 11.70 percent on Tuesday in the division.

“The coronavirus infection rate continues rising amid a declining recovery rate and a rising casualty rate in recent weeks in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,24,583 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 17,860 people were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.34 percent.

“The district-wise break-up of total 17,860 patients stands at 4,651 in Rangpur, 824 in Panchagarh, 1,519 in Nilphamari, 1,041 in Lalmonirhat, 1,135 in Kurigram, 1,638 in Thakurgaon, 5,355 in Dinajpur and 1,697 in Gaibandha,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 16,471 with the healing of 43 more infected people on Tuesday in the division.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 92.22 percent in the division where the recovery rate crossed the 97 percent mark a month ago.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 345 with no more death reported from anywhere in the division on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up of the 345 fatalities stands at 80 in Rangpur, 123 in Dinajpur, 36 in Thakurgaon, 34 in Nilphamari, 18 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 13 in Lalmonirhat of the division.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

Among the total 17,860 infected patients, 74 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 22 critically sick patients at ICU beds, after recovery of 16,471 patients and 345 deaths while 997 remaining in home isolations across the division.

Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 in the division where inoculation of people with the first dose of the jab continues remaining suspended since Monday.

“At the same time, the number of second dose recipients rose to 2,31,191 with inoculation of 10,271 citizens on Tuesday in the division,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives for containing further spread of the deadly virus.
