Husband confesses hacking AL Leader Kanak to death

DHAKA, Apr 25, 2021 (BSS) – Omar Faruk, 51, has given a confessional statement in a case alleging he hacked to death her wife Umama Begum Kanak, 40, a member of the Awami League’s sub-committee on relief and social welfare.

He was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court today. At that time, the investigating officer of the case requested the court to record his confession as he willingly admitted his guilt.

Following the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim recorded his statement and ordered him to be sent to jail.

According to the case, Faruk stabbed his wife Kanak with a sharp Boti, at around 12:15 pm on Friday at his Mirpur DOHS resident over a family feud.

Kanak was later rescued in a critical condition and taken to a local hospital. She was taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

Kanak succumbed to her injuries at 5:30 am on Saturday while undergoing treatment there.

The victim’s family filed a case against Kanak’s husband with Pallabi police station.

Later on Saturday, he was arrested from his home.

Police recovered a sharp Boti and a fruit cutting knife used in the murder from the house.
