Prof Arefin mourns death of ex-BUET VC Shafiullah
DHAKA, April 25, 2021 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) former Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Prof AMM Shafiullah.
In a message of condolence, he said Prof Shafiullah, a civil engineer and educationist, played an important role in the field of engineering education as the vice-chancellor of BUET and Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST).
His death is an irreparable loss to not only in the field of engineering education but also in the country’s entire education system, he said.
Prof Arefin, also chairman of the board of directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), said Prof Shafiullah’s death has created a deep vacuum in the field of education which will not be filled easily.
“I got opportunity to work with Prof AMM Shafiullah in different times. I saw how simple, humble and patriotic person he was,” he said.
He prayed for eternal peace of departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to bereaved family.
Prof AMM Shafiullah, former vice-chancellor of BUET, passed away due to Covid-19 at a city hospital on Saturday.
