BRCS starts distributing Ramadan foods among poor families

DHAKA, April 25, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BRCS) has started distributing Ramadan food items among 15,300 destitute and Covid-19 affected families across the country.

The humanitarian non-government organization launched the food package distribution programme today, initially distributing the packages among 500 host families of Ratnapalang and Haldia unions (250 families from each union) of Cox’s Bazar district.

The BRCS distributed the package, comprising of dates, pulses, soybean oil, sugar, salt, puffed rice (muri), flattened rice (chira), gram, gram flour, semai (vermicelli) and semolina (suji), under its Population Movement Operation (PMO) programme with the support of Qatar Red Crescent, said a press release here today.

According to Disaster Response Department of the BRCS, a total of 15,300 families, including 500 in capital, 1,000 in Rajshahi district, 1,000 in Rajshahi city corporation area, 500 in Narsingdi district, 500 in Munshiganj district, 500 in Narayanganj district and 10,300 families, including forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens Rohingyas living at camp-11 in Ukhiya and host communities of the upazila, in Cox’s Bazar district will be provided with the food assistance while more 1,000 families will be given the food package by BRCS’s national headquarters.

The ultra-poor, destitute and lower income families and people with disabilities would get priority in selecting the beneficiaries of the food programme, it said.
